Welcome to the Music Room 2010!
For the First Term of the Year all the Year 7 students are working in the Music Room for one and a half hours every 6 days as part of their school work.
The sessions are very busy. Each one consists of
Music History
Listening to music
Singing
Theory
Keyboard playing
This term so far for music history students have been learning about and listening to Split Enz, Mozart, Queen and Rossini. Quite a mixture! Good old Youtube provides us with clips to watch via the data projector.
In the Theory part of music which is basically how music works, we have learnt the names of the notes on the Treble Clef (FACE and Every Good Boy Deserves Fruit)- so students are beginning to be able to read music. Very Exciting! We have also learnt about the names of the notes and their different time values.
At the moment we are beginning to learn a few notes from the Bass Clef and have reached the dizzy heights of being able to play the keyboard with two hands.
The progress has been amazing. As well as being able to read printed music, students need to be able to find the notes on the keyboard and these keyboards are not marked in any way.
For most Year 7s this is the very first taste of reading and playing music on a keyboard. I am so impressed with their hard work and successes.

There are lots of other happenings on the Music front. Every week appoximately 140 students have Instrumental lessons from our Tutors. These lessons are during the school day.
