Welcome to Room 6 2011

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Kia Ora and welcome to 2011 at Masterton Intermediate School.  My name is Megan Roberts and I will be teaching in Room 6 this year as your childs teacher.

Today, your child has been given their own diary.  The purpose of this diary is to aid time management and organisation skills.  It is also an opportunity for me to keep in touch with you at home.  Each night your child will bring home their diary.  In this diary, together, we will have set homework, if any and noted any reminders for the following day or week.  Please check this diary with your child and sign it daily.  If you have any comments to make there is a section on each page that you can do so.

Please also ensure that your child is organised daily with the correct equipment.  It is necessary to always have a blue and red pen, 2 pencils, a pencil sharpener, a rubber, a glue stick, a ruler, coloured pencils, refill and a pair of scissors.  Time will be put aside frequently for your child to read a book of their own choice independently, so it is important that they bring it to school daily.

This year we will continue to have Physical Education of either fitness or lessons every day. Please ensure that your child has the correct P.E uniform with them.  If your child is unable to participate in a Physical Education lesson please write a note and send it with your child to school.

Our Technicraft sessions are on Days 1 and 5.  Options 1 will be on a Day 3 and Options 2 will be on a day 6. Computers will be on a day 2 and library will be on a Day 4. Your child will be expected to be organised on these days with the appropriate equipment.

Your child will be introduced to a variety of new and exciting experiences this year, anything from an Inter-Class Cricket tournament to competing in Mathematics competitions.  Please help me to encourage them to give new opportunities a go as this will allow them to truly experience what Masterton Intermediate School has to offer.

I am also writing to ask you to help me become a partner with you in your child’s education.  I will only have your child for a short time in this trip through life and I want to make a contribution that lasts a lifetime.

Would you help me teach well by taking a quiet moment to write to me about your child?  What is your youngster like?  What are the things you as a parent know, that would be important for me to know?  What are your child’s interests?  I want to know how your child thinks and plays and how you see your child as a learner and a person.

I look forward to the coming year and getting to know (and continuing to know more about) you and your child in a positive mannor.  If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact me either at the school office or directly on my school email – megan@mis.school.nz.

Yours sincerely,

Megan Roberts
