The Niagara Falls Report

Niagara Falls are the most powerful water fall in the Northen Hemisphere, the water falls 6,000,000 cubic feet every minute down 176 feet of clay and rock.

The Niagara Falls are a voliminus waterfall of the NIagara river, straddling the international border of the canadian province of Ontario and the U.S state of New York.

Niagara Falls were formed when glaciers receeded at the end of the Wisconsin glaciation (the last ice age), the water from the newly formed Great Lakes carved a path through the Niagara Escarpment en route to the Atlantic Ocean over 12,000 years ago and is still flowing now. It is 1060 feet long and 176 feet high. The valley beneath the falls collect over 6,000,000 gallons of water every single minute and when the flowing water hits the water in the valley it splashes 137 feet in the air. The Niagara Fallls are devided into The Horse shoe Falls and The American Falls, The Horseshoe Falls fall 173 feet (57m) and The American Falls fall 70 - 100 feet in the air.

There are differing theories to the origin of the name of the falls. According to a Iroquoian scholar Bruce Trigger, "Niagara" is delivered from the name gven to a branch of the locally residing native Neutral Confederacy, who are described as being clled the "Niagagarega" people on several late 17th century French maps of the area. In the year 1969the New York Council decided to stop the flowing of the water that travels through the Niagara River for scientific reasons, the idea was to remove the loose rocks at the bottom of the falls.

Now the falls are decorated with lights and decorations, it is known all over the world, it is a magnificent tourist site, one of the greatest waterfalls and one of the seven wonders of the world.
