Term 3 gets underway
This Term Year 7 are back for classroom music. Plans for this term includes continuing on with keyboard skills. We've gone over what we covered in the First Term and we haven't forgotten anything. Students are playing simple pieces on the keyboard using two hands! It's amazing to see the progress.
There are a number of students who are learning the keyboard either privately, or at school with our piano tutor on a Friday. vWe have a lovely electric piano equipped with two sets of headphones and the more able pianists have more challenging music to play. There is even a duet or two coming along.
Next week all the Year 7's will start to learn the ukulele. Earlier on in the year a class set of ukeleles was purchased. These are such fun to play.
Ella Fitzgerald has been our Listening this Music Session. Ask your child about her amazing scat singing. Even the Teachers' Aides have been bopping along to her Jazz tunes. Go Ella!
The choir is practising madly for our visit to ArtSplash which takes place in Week 5. Next week the Artsplash Coordinator from Wellington is coming to choir practice to hear them singing. I know she will be impressed. All choir members have a notice about this forthcoming trip. We'll be leaving just before 9.00am and returning to MIS at 9.30 pm that night. It's a busy day but lots of fun. The choir will get to sing with 600 other singers from Wellington Schools in the Michael Fowler Centre. Tickets are available from the School Office ($4.00 each)
We've just finished our second session of Options One. The Fun With Music group have been doing bucket drumming. There are some fantastic rhythms to be heard. We do it outside on the concrete and it sounds very loud and enthusistic. Its all done on plastic paint buckets. Cheap and cheerful.
The Music Room is humming!!
