Masterton Intermediate School provides a comprehensive sports programme which includes a variety of sports codes for Saturday morning and after school sport:

·       milo cricket
·       indoor hockey

·       tennis
·       canoe polo
·       table tennis
 
A comprehensive Super Sports programme involving eleven intermediates from Wanganui, Levin, Palmerston North, Fielding, Marton and Masterton provide sporting excellence in fourteen events:

·       badminton
·       volleyball
·       rugby
·       netball
·       cricket
·       softball
·       tennis
·       hockey
·       basketball
·       mountain biking
·       golf
·       triathlon
·       harriers
 
Each year a group of children travel away or play at home to represent the school in these events.
 
Every year in term 2 over 100 Masterton Intermediate students participate in an annual sporting exchange with Havelock North Intermediate School. Every second year M.I.S travels to Havelock North with Havelock North students visiting us on the alternate years.
 
The skills of the majority of these sports are taught as part of the school Physical Education programme. Children at Masterton Intermediate School enjoy participating in a range of lunchtime inter-class tournaments among themselves in these sporting codes.
