Remembering Christchurch One Year On
Yesterday, Wednesday 22nd February was the one-year anniversary of the Christchurch devastating earthquake. In Room 13 we reflected about the earthquake by sharing experiences and viewing some footage of the damage on You Tube.
We the shared our thoughts and feelings through writing – here is an extract of students writing:
Our Christchurch
On February the 22nd in 2011 a huge earthquake struck our Christchurch.
On February 22nd in 2011, 185 people died in our Christchurch.
Since February 22 in 2011, we have been trying to recover our Christchurch.
Our friends and family have been victims of the earthquake in our Christchurch.
There were over 7600 aftershocks in our Christchurch.
I hope to rebuild, remake, recover and renew our Christchurch.

Christchurch Earthquake
Rumble, Rumble
I fell to the ground with a bang.
I tried to scream, but I couldn’t.
Piercing noises hurt my ears.
Crackle, Crackle
Everything was falling.
I saw a white face.
I quietly crawled over; like the earthquake
was a monster trying to get me.
Suddenly it stopped.
Everyone was running around
like headless chickens.
Some crying, some lying still
I ran over to try and wake them up.
But I couldn’t.
A small body lying still,
A tear fell from my eye.
Why did this have to happen?
