Homework Room 5 Week 5

Hi all, just updating you with this week's homework.

Students will be bringing home timestables practice each night.

For those who want an extra challenge I would like them to time themselves with each task and have parents sign off the work. There will be prizes up for grabs for the fastest ones...

Talent Show warm up!

The children in room 2 and Syndicate One have had their first practice of the talent show, performing in front of our entire syndicate. It is amazing to see such extraordinary talent at such a young age. These children will now go on and perform in front of the school in the first heats.

Wet and Cold

Today Monday is a very wet day in Masterton and this morning it was also very windy.  After morning tea the group headed off to the indoor pools for a swim, even though the weather was horrible outside, the water was warm and everybody enjoyed themselves.

Term 3 Computers

This term is another busy one in the Computer Suite.  The Year 7 students are working on activities that are mostly based around the Life Education Caravan being in the school.  For many the focus is on systems of the body.  We have found out some interesting facts and information about how our bodies work.  These are being presented in podcast forms and I am looking forward to seeing the final products later in the term.

Maths Week in Room 8

Next Week Room 8 will be participating in NZ Maths Week online and in class activities. Each student has a username and password (number) to access this site. They wish to continue collecting Maths Dollars at home. There are games and daily Dollar Questions that they might not always get time to do in class.  http://www.mathsweek.org.nz

Visit to Mt. Bruce

Yesterday the students along with seven MIS host students visited the Mt. Bruce Bird Reserve.  The weather was wet but the students still enjoyed the experience.  The highlight for them was feeding the rather large eels a combination of dead ferrets, mice and kiwi food while Alex, our escort braved the cold water to show the students just how large and tame the eels were.

They've Arrived

On Monday our students that are travelling to Japan in September had there first trip together, we went down to Wellington airport to pick up our guests from Shijonawate Junior High School.  This year there are fifteen students staying with us for nearly 2 weeks.  There are also two teachers with the group.  As well as the visiting group, this year the CEO of Shijonawate Gakuen, Mr Kawasaki,  Kyoshi Horii, who is the teacher who is behind the exchange in Japan, and Megumi Haraguchi have also travelled to visit us for three days before they head back to Japan.  They

Room 8 at the LIFE ED BUS

This term our school has been lucky enough to have Harold and Charlotte in the Life Ed bus teaching us about drugs and all the bad things they do to your body.  We are also learning about the changes during puberty. During our time on the bus we played 1 2 3 where you have to say a number but if two people say a number at the same time they sit down and you start a new round.  Yesterday in Circle Time we continued to improve and we got over 20. Yah!
