Chess

Chess Club

is now on in the Library after school each Tuesday afternoon.  Last week (week one) was our first session with 12 students turning up keen to compete with each other.  Next week out top 8 students from the Havelock North Exchange are  competing in the Take Note Wairarapa Chess Tournament at Carterton Primary.  Then on Tuesday the 17th August Ben, Raven and Jacob are travelling to Pahiatua for that competition!!!

Ken Catran visit to the LIbrary

Ken Catran, NZ author of books for young adults and writer of such things as Shortland Street, the movie script for Under the Mountain....etc...came to the Wairarapa last week and came to MIS to run a workshop for all our budding writers.

Three sessions were held over the day with the students learning the basics of creating good short stories.  Ken encouraged the students to write everything down and when not writing read (to see how others do it!)

Week 3 already!

Term two is rushing past!  I can't believe it's week 3 already....New book club has done a really cool display on TrueLife Stories.  Books like Ana's Story, Marley:a dog like no other, Chris Ryans Alpha Force and Christian the Lion are all highlighted...check it out!

Here is a link for a new poetry book: My Hippo has hiccups.

Check this out.  A new book only available on-line and with some really cool poems in it.  Why not try writing some yourself.  The best I will put on the blog.  So get inspired!
