Room 8's blog

This week our class were given a technology challenge to complete.  Our task was to create a pikau or backpack.  All we were allowed to use was:

• 15 double sheets of newspaper
• 1 vivid pen
• 1 sticky label
• 2 A4 sheets of card
• 1 roll of sticky tape
• scissors

We worked in groups and we had 30 minutes to complete the task.  Mrs Kerr who was in our class was very impressed with how we worked together and to create our backpacks and we had a lot of fun. 

This term Room 8 has been looking at Scotland as a part of the Rugby World Cup. Some of the Year 8's were able to complete some short movies to show what they have learnt about Scotland.

This morning Vane came in from ASB to talk to us about financial banking and how it works. He talked to us about how credit cards take money from the bank and how eftpos cards use your own money to buy things.    

This term our main focus is on inequality.  When animals or humans are treated unfairly this is often seen as Inequality.

This term we have done projects of how Inequality is shown in the world.  Here are some of them shown on a PhotoPeach slideshow.

For writing we have been learning how to write a discussion we started practising with a discussion on snowfall.Should school be closed during snowfall?

All year round room 8 have ben doing a reading system-reading log. 

This has a number of levels that including a number of books and activities to go with them. Such as level 3 was to read 8 books and 2 activities, one activity was to do a poster that included the setting, Characters, Your opinion and what it is about like this one, Parvana

Welcome to Room 8 with a new term, the next few weeks are going to be very busy!

SPEECH FINALS

On Friday five year 7 students presented there speeches. They talked about all sorts of things- Amber tried to convince us about the problems with people killing Whales , others talking about hunting and even how to cook chocolate rough.
