All about the Cooking Room Term 3
Lovely to have the Year 7's back and all so happy to once again be cooking and I suppose, eating!
We have embarked on a Healthy Lunchbox Unit which is to kick start ideas for alternative healthy lunches either for the school lunchbox or for a Saturday or Sunday family lunch.
Students at present have started with a sweet treat first much to their delight. The Lunchbox Crunch leads to a Technology activity where the students are frequired to make a wrapper for one muesli bar which they could market in the school canteen. Students will need to be aware of the need for honest labelling, for eye appeal and meeting a need. This activity will be assessed.
Savoury treats will be the order of the day for the rest of the term.
One other assessment area in which you could help your student is in supporting their hunt for suitable pictures of healthy foods that make up a healthy lunchbox. Foodie junkmail is an excellent resource but please leave the decision making to the student.
Option programmes are now up and running and the Around the World in Tasty Ways option is working well and is presented from a Social Studies slant about eating patterns of other cultures.
Resturant Design has captured the interest of most students who have been able to use their technical drawing skills gained in the Woodwork Room to produce 3D drawings. It is always rewarding to see such a crossover of information and skills.
We continue to be excited at the produce and prospects of our school garden. The possibilities are endless and such a wonderful learning environment.
